Sarjeant Gallery, Whanganui, New Zealand
Thousands of floating boulders of pumice were gathered, drilled and threaded with stainless steel cable into tall hollow helical forms. The pumice originally exploded from Lake Taupō approx 2000 years ago and is still continually eroding and being washed down the Whanganui River. The sculpture symbolises the volcanic mountains from where the pumice erupted so long ago.
The project kaumātua (elder) was the late Henry Bennett.
